Castor oil is a tasteless and odorless vegetable
oil that is extracted by pressing of the seeds of the castor plant,
scientifically known as Ricinus
communis. Castor oil is derived from the castor
bean and is used for a variety of industrial and health related applications.
Its primary pesticidal use is as an Insecticide, but it is also used as
a repellent for moles, gophers, armadillos, and other burrowing vertebrate
pests. Their mode of action is considered to be suffocation for most insect
pests with some antifeedant properties, and asphyxiation for rodents.
Neem Oil is a
naturally occurring pesticide found in seeds from the
neem tree. It is yellow to brown, has a bitter taste, and a garlic/sulfur
smell. It has been used for hundreds of years to control pests and diseases. Azadirachtin
is the most active component for repelling and killing pests and can be
extracted from neem oil.
- Neem mainly affects chewing and sucking insects. Neem is effective in
controlling black spot, powdery mildew, anthracnose and rust fungi
- It is also effective against mealy bug, beet armyworm, aphids, cabbage
worm, thrips, whiteflies, mites, fungus gnats, beetle
